53rd St Barnabas Scout Group
Switzerland Trip 4th - 14th July 2010 2nd Page.
Sunday 11th July.
We woke up at seven o'clock, had breakfast. It was cereal. It was very nice. We went outside to play a game, ninja! the object of the game is to hit the hand in one movement, in
a circle. And i met a new friend, he's scottish and his name is sam. Then we went up to our room to play card games in the kanderlodge and we played snap. Then we had
lunch, pasta. It was very nice. Then it was the sports afternoon. And we were doing a volleyball tournament and football tournament. I was in the team of 'AWESOMENESS'. The
catch phrase was 'We're no joke'! We lost at football but we had a very good goalie. He was from Denmark and we had a few people from Spain. We won in the volleyball
tournament and they took a picture of us and put it on the website. Then we played volleyball against the pinkies. We lost 14-15. Then it started to rain. When it stopped raining
we went to have a shower. We had fifteen minutes free time and then we had dinner, which was paella. We did the pioneering competition, we came fourth. We made a
stretcher that was running very fast and i was on the stretcher and i almost fell. We waited five minutes, we came back to kander-lodge to watch the World Cup Final and
everybody was with Holland, and i was the only person in the 53rd that was with Spain. And Spain won. And i lost my voice that night. And then we went to bed. It was a fantastic
day!

Monday 12th July.
We woke up and had breakfast. And then we got on parade in full uniform outside and went to flag break. After flag break we had to get our bags ready for the Thun Adventure
Challenge. We walked to the train station, got the train and reached the village of Thun. There we walked up to the church and we had to find some information about the church.
We had a rest and afterwards we walked to the castle and explored it by following the clues for the challenge. Once we found the clues we walked into the garden and had a
snack. Then we followed the clues to the town square. And in the town square we had to find some of the pictures. We met all the other groups at the train station. Then we took
the train back to the village of Kandersteg. And some people had to go and visit the museum for a badge. And then we met back at camp at ten to six for dinner. We took part in
the international barbecue and it started to rain in the middle of it so we all had to go inside. At night we met all the leaders in the kander-lodge and ate a giant toblerone that we
raised money for. We had a fun night in the kanderlodge and our own little party!
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Christianna
Tuesday 13th July.
We woke up early to have breakfast and then got ready to go to the high-ropes park. When we arrived at the high-ropes park, we went up loads of stairs and  got all of our
equipment: harness, helmet and gloves, then spent over an hour practising and trying to remember to always be clipped on. After a while at the high-ropes park Chris turns
back because Skip is stuck on the rope part. Meanwhile Charlie and Explorers were working at KISC as part of the International Service Project  whilst we were having fun.
Then we came back for lunch late. Lunch was noodles with vegetables. Chris didn't manage to finish on time because he too was stuck so we had to save food for him for
when he returned. After lunch we had to pack and the girls took part in  the world scouting workshop. Once they finished we did the workshop, which was a board game where
you had to answer questions about scouting and the centre and also do challenges. After that we had to come back to our rooms for inspection that we amazingly passed!
Then we had dinner which was pork with ham and cheese, boiled vegetables and potatoes. After dinner we went to the memorial rock where we all got badges and sang
songs that we learnt from the international campfire.  Then some of the scouts with Dalia made up a song about  all the leaders. It was hilarious! We sat in the kander-lodge
chatting for a bit and eating the rest of the chocolates and then went to bed because of the early flight. It was a busy yet fun day!

Two years ago we started talking about a 53rd Scout trip abroad. Last year 7 of us had the opportunity to take part in Rover
way 09 which was held in Iceland so we had to wait. As soon as we got back the decision was made KISC Switzerland
was our destination for summer 2010, the permanent Mini Jamboree that BP himself had created in Kandersteg.
After Eight months of organising and preparation 37 of our members had a true Scouting experience, mixing with other
Scouts from all over the World, hiking, rafting and playing games. We also threw in trips to Zermatt and Thun to give our
Scouts a real look at the beauty of Switzerland.
All our Explorers, Scouts and two Cubs have enjoyed the trip and the pictures speak for themselves.
I would like to thank all the Leaders, Andreas and Maria for all their support, patience and hard work to make the trip
unforgettable for all and a special THANK YOU to Stephanie who spent hours double checking all the planning to insure
we were ready.
Again in 2013? Maybe.
