53rd St Barnabas Scout Group
Scout Program Summer Camp Platania 2007
Day1
On their arrival at camp the Scouts got the wonderful job of unloading the lorry with everyone’s stuff in it! Once
they had been assigned their tents (The Scouts had the best part of the campsite just above the football pitch)
they started on the pioneering. After lunch each tent had managed to complete a gate and boundaries. Once they
had relaxed a little they too had to look around for wood for the traditional campfire we have with the other troops.
After dinner they met up with the Cubs and went down to the campfire.
The Scouts managed to stay awake for the entire campfire and gave it there all when our well known song
BINGO was sung! Finally at around 10pm the Scouts were in bed and asleep.
Day 2
WAKE UP!!! Scouts wake up call is maybe a little more harsher than the Cubs one! By 7am they
were all jogging down to the Flag Break area for their morning exercise. After they had eaten they
had an inspection. Once they had been inspected they went and join the Cubs and the other troops
for Flag Break. First task of the day for them was to finish off their pioneering which included an Ariel
Runway, Camp Gadgets and putting up the Volley Ball net. They managed to complete all this just
before lunch. After lunch they all had to brace themselves for one the most difficult hikes the 53rd
do. The hike to the Blue Rock. This is indeed a big rock…spray painted blue! From the campsite
you can just see this spec of blue so it must make all the Scouts proud to say that they hiked up
there! They looked wrecked when they came back…Cuts, bruises and blisters…and very dirt and
smelly! After showering they sat round the tables they had made and played card games. They then
joined in the Farid's game then were sent to bed! They had managed to survive the second day!
Day 3
ITS PARENTS DAY! COME ON WAKE UP! The scouts were up and jogging down the hill before
7am. After breakfast, Inspection and Flag Break the Scouts had the task of cleaning up the area
around their area and generally the campsite. As with the Cubs the Scouts parents arrived at
11pm and left the campsite to various different places on the island. But like the Cubs the
reappeared at 4pm! They played card games and chatted until dinner time. After they had eaten
they played the Wide Game with the Cubs and were then sent to bed! Day three in the Big
Brother camp completed!
Day 4
WAKE UP! WERE ON DUTY!!! GET YOUR BUTTS OUT OF BED! The Scouts were down
preparing the breakfast area for the Leaders and Scouts of the campsite. When they had
finished they had to do all the cleaning up as well and help the Cubs. After they had successfully
completed all that they had Inspection and Flag Break. Once this had all finished they started
completing there Bronze Leaf and First Class Awards. Four Scouts had to go down to prepare
the Roffima then they continued there work. Once they had finished preparing and cleaning up
the lunch area they continued with MORE badge work for the survival badge and there awards.
Once they had showered they had free time and then had to be ready for duty at 6.30ish. Once
they had cleaned up after dinner they went on a night hike to the waterfalls. That seemed to be
one of the highlights of the camp! When the got back they went straight to bed! Day 4 over!
Day 5
HIKE TODAY! COME HUP 2 3 4! The Scouts had a difficult day ahead of them with a hike to Loumata
campsite. The Explorer Scouts together with the Explorers from 280 set of in the morning hiking to
Loumata and then returning at 5.00pm. The scout finished of their badgework in the morning and
got ready for their Hike. Once they had eaten they got ready and set off. They arrived at the campsite
at around 5pm. Once they had relaxed a bit they built their Bivowacs (shelters) for them to sleep inn.
This is the famous camp where you will find out all about this DOINK business. You see leader and
former Scout Kypros took it upon himself to look down the front of a hose and pulled the hatch that
you usually pull not facing you! It broke, smacked his face and made the distinctive noise DOINK! So
from then on he was known as Doink! As the night grew on and the light got less they realized how
much equipment they hadn’t thought to bring…such as light, plates, knifes etc. This had a result of
cutting meat with a penknife under the light of a mobile phones torch! This was indeed a survival
camp…only for the Leaders as well! Once they had all eaten they went to sleep in there Bivowacs.
As you can see in the picture…they all look so sweet! Shame they cant stay and look like that all the
time! Day 5 completed!
Day 6
WAKE UP! COME ON WE HAVE TO BE BACK BY 11! The Scouts were woken up at
5.30am and set off by 7am on their way back to the campsite. On there arrival at the
Platania picnic site they renewed there promise with the Cubs. They made there
way back to the campsite were they shower and got all the dirt and stink of
themselves…well tried to anyway! Once they had eaten and relaxed a bit they all
walked up to the waterfalls were they enjoyed a nice experience of mountain
climbing. Once they had returned they collected firewood for the 53rd party. Once
they had beaten the Cubs at the Gin-Gan-Goolie song they went to bed after a long
tiring day! Day 6 over!
Day 7
COME ON PEOPLE WAKE UP! Today was more or less a relaxing for the Scouts. They
finished there usual routine of Breakfast, Inspection and Flag Break then started the
day. They had to take down all the pioneering projects that had been built throughout
the camp each gaining points for each item they took. They had got to play different
card games and football etc. Paintball was the highlight of the camp itself though.
Target practice on Mastou and Kypros. For future Cubs and Scouts NEVER take a bet
with them to hit them or else you will walk in your underwear! That’s what the two
Michaels did and urm…LOST! Anyway the paint balling was a success with Kypros
coming back with a cut on his lip (go Christian!) and Ahmed coming with a huge bruise
on his arm (go Steph!) At the campfire that night the Scouts sang loud and proud and
surprised the other scout groups with some really funny sketches. At 10pm with Roy
nearly asleep they all went to bed. And can you believe it?! They were all sad to be
leaving! Day 7 in the Big Brother Camp complete!

Last day on Camp
This years camp was a great success, all our targets were met. We had enough
leaders to run separate cub and scout programs. Well done to Stephanie, Laura
and Kypros for keeping the Scouts motivated.
All Scouts managed to gain the Survival Badge. Seven Scouts also gained the
First Class Award and two almost have completed the Bronze Leaf. The Mountain
Climbers Badge will be completed in October.
Well done to all.
