53rd St Barnabas Scout Group
St Georges Day Pafos 1st and 2nd of May 09
This years St Georges Day in Pafos had all our Leaders motivated. Our group Chairman Andreas once again helped the
group transport our equipment safely to Pafos and help Peter our Explorer leader  together with  7 of our Explorers and 5
Explorers from the 289th Group build two towers in front of the Castle. Both Towers were finished at 2.00pm and
Explorers then rested before Friday nights Lantern March.
The Explorers together with Peter and Andreas stayed behind to pack up the two
towers before returning to Limassol after a very busy two days.
Akela, Baloo and Stephanie had to stay behind to attend an offical dinner at the Avanti
Hotel where they each received a medal from the Cyprus Scouting Association.
There will  be a special St Groege's Day Celebrations page made due to the fact that
there were alot of photos taken at the event.
On Saturday the 2nd of February the 53 St. Baranabus scout troop went to
Paphos to take part in the saint Georges day parade. This is when scouts from
all over Cyprus gather together to take part in a march that leads us to a castle on
the seafront. We all had a brilliant time and for some people it was their first time
marching in front of a crowd so, congratulations to them. We marched to the
castle near the seaside where there were numerous scout troops taking part
from all over Cyprus, all of whom turned up to take part in the parade. About
halfway through they made us retake our promise.
Then there was a long speech made by a priest.
By the end of the day we were all of course very tired and looking forward to
getting home. We all enjoyed ourselves for the day and cannot wait to do it again
next year
